Macro photography: Ledsham Vale

I nipped over to Ledsham Vale today, a small YWT nature reserve north of Castleford, for a macro photography session. I figured it might be quite good as the weather was cloudy and overcast as I set off but by the  time I got there it had become hot and humid and the butterflies were very active. There were lots of marbled whites, the first time I’ve ever seen them there, and hundreds of small skippers too. I wonder if the marbled whites have been introduced? It’s a limestone grassland so they will do well and there were quite a few on the wing. In the end, I only managed small tortoiseshell, marbled white and a few flowers, including eye-bright which is shown here, and a really nice grasshopper. The eye-bright and the grasshopper are both minuscule!
