This is a favoutite image from a recent winter trip to Scotland to capture some winter wildlife. Deep in a Scottish pine forest we came across this male capercaillie holding territory and despite the freezing conditions and falling snow, he gave us a wonderful display. This is photographed with a 300mm lens and I was lying face down in the snow to get a low viewpoint. I used a fast shutter speed so that I could stop the snowflakes from becoming streaks rather than flakes.
Nikon D3, Nikkor 300mm f/2.8 ISO800 1/400 @ f/5.6
