Just some of the kind words clubs and societies have sent me after one of my illustrated presentations

Lytham St Annes Photographic Society
I was fortunate to hear your presentation at Lytham St Annes PS last night and I found the whole night thoroughly enjoyable.  I have been a member for only 2 years and your talk was easily the most entertaining and inspiring. I thought that your approach was excellent, from composition thro to examples.  It was laced with humour, sufficient info on equipment, location, feeding patterns, lighting, technique on attracting birds and how to lie in the path of stampeding horses! Having now retired I am trying to get out more with the camera and whilst I will never be in your class (I couldn’t get up from a prone position anymore!), your images and straightforward approach give me inspiration. I have a Nikon (tick) and a longish lens (tick) but I did not realise that the missing ingredient was custard creams.  Off to Aldi.

Masham Photo Club
On behalf of Masham Photo Club, thank you for a wonderful evening last Tuesday.  Every agreed you had some stunning photos.  If they are your fun photos we wonder what your so called professional photos are like! We certainly would like you to come back again sometime.  We have our AGM in October and are starting to plan the programme for the new season so hopefully we will be able to set a date for a return visit from you.
Thank you once again.

Just a quick email to again thank you for a splendid presentation last night. As you no doubt gathered it was very well received and I do not doubt that we shall be inviting you back in the future.

Derbyshire Ornithologists Society
On behalf of DOS, many thanks for providing us with a most entertaining and educational evening on Friday. I heard lots of favourable comments both at half time and at the end – always a good indicator of an enraptured audience when they talk about what they have just seen rather than the price of fish in Sainsburys! For our group, several of whom wield cameras, your explanation of how some of the shots were obtained and your general ethos and approach to wildlife photography was most informative without being intrusive for the non photographers. Anecdotes and humour were a bonus in support of a magnificent set of photographs. I hope you had a trouble free journey home and look forward to inviting you again to the Society in the not too distant future. In the meantime enjoy your birding and I hope the ground remains dry for those stunning eye-level shots!

Harrogate Photographic Society
On behalf of our President, Malcolm Davies, and all our members, many thanks indeed for bringing your talk ‘A Bit of Everything’ to HPS on Monday. It was probably one of the best evenings we have had for a long time and I am sorry I had to miss it for another commitment. However, I have picked up some very enthusiastic comments on the high quality of your images presented with a wealth of technical detail. The physical effort needed to get some of your results from climbing mountains to freezing in hides could not have failed to impress. You won’t regret not to have to carry a portable darkroom on your back as well!  My wife commented that she thought she recognised some of your bird photographs from the RSPB magazine. I hope we will be able to re-invite you to return in some future programme. Meanwhile, many thanks again  and please do feel welcome to visit HPS at any of our meetings.
Kind regards,
Peter Manning LRPS, [Programme Secretary]

Whitby Photographic Society
Many thanks for putting on such an excellent show on Thursday.  We have many members who are interested in wildlife and birds so your show was ideal. As well as enjoying seeing your photos everyone mentioned how knowlegable you were about your subjects which made it even more interesting.
Thank you for providing our club with a thoroughly enjoyable night.
Kind regards

Hi John – just wanted to say another big thank you for yet another excellent show last night – standing room only in the end!  The photos just seem to keep getting better and the video clips were a bonus. It was a nice mix of the familiar and the more exotic – the pelicans were wonderful.   Everyone really enjoyed it and it got the New Year off to a great start.  It will be a hard act for the others to follow!  We shall look forward to a return visit before too long.

Axeholme Camera Club
Hi John – I would like to thank you, very much indeed, for your enthralling and very amusing talk.  Geoff had painted a glowing picture of your talents but I don’t think any of us were prepared for such a treat.  I will never look in a ‘parts’ catalogue again with disinterest!!    Many thanks again, John, and I do hope that you will be able to visit us again sometime in the future.
Joyce Hooley (Programme Secretary)
