Waxwing take off!

I love this shot of three waxwings taking to the air! I made the image during a short session with these enigmatic birds along a disused railway line near York earlier this year. The birds were coming to feed on rosehips, probably the last thing they take to eating before they head back to Scandinavia – I’ve decided rosehips are the Brussels sprouts of the bird world as nothing seems to eat them unless its the only thing available! Shot with the blisteringly fast Nikon D3, I let go a burst just as the birds flew and managed to capture these three guys in mid air.

My wife and I, plus two friends were at the Poulton show last night. Niether my wife nor the friends are photographers, but all agreed it was a smashing show. The friends remarked that it was wonderful to see such a wonderful display of such superb photos, particularly the birds.

So, thanks for a very good evening.
