Snow and blue skies over Wakefield

After a heavy load of snow, we finally had some blue skies to match so I was quickly out to get some winter landscapes for a commission by the local council for their 2013 brochure work. Here are a couple taken at Newmillerdam country park in Wakefield.

Purple Sandpiper (Calidris maritima)

I really enjoy photographing the purple sandpipers along the Yorkshire coast in the late autumn and winter; such beautiful and confiding birds. This one was photographed at Bridlington harbour.

Blackcap at Seckar Heath

Seckar Heath

Had a walk onto the coal measure heathland between Wakefield & Barnsley to see if I could catch up with a few spring migrants. Although there were singing chiffchaff and my first willow warbler of the year, I didn’t manage to get anything decent. Lots of chaffinch and linnets around too, as well as yellowhammer…
